Frequently Asked Questions

Does it cost anything to come sailing?

For individuals we ask for a small donation of $5.00 per person to assist with running costs.

For group sailings, please contact the Duty Officer for the appropriate region.

If you wish to sail on a regular basis, then we recommend you become a paid member of Sailability Tasmania.

I'm in a wheelchair. Is it possible for me to come along?

Yes. We have clients who are mobility impaired. There is a sling that we use to gently lift you out of your chair and onto one of the yachts. It's completely safe with many willing people at hand to assist you for a smooth transition.

I'm a family member/carer for a person with a disability. Can I come along?

Absolutely! We encourage family and carers to join us. We endeavour to provide a wonderful sailing trip for our clients and your presence can only enhance this and make it a more comfortable experience.

How long are your sailing trips?

It can depend on which experience you are having with us. If out on one of our yachts then the trip usually lasts for about 2 hours.

If out on one of our dinghies you can return early if you require. Although we usually marshall our dinghy sailors into a sailing course that takes about an hour to complete.

What should I wear? Do I need to bring a life-jacket?

Clothing - Warm clothes are recommended as the wind has a chill-factor whilst on the water. Please also bring along a spray-jacket/raincoat.

Footwear - Sneakers or casual shoes with rubber soles. Sorry ladies but absolutely NO high-heels!

Lifejackets - We supply life-jackets for the trip and keep a range of sizes on hand. You are also welcome to bring your own along as long as it conforms to the Australian Standard for Personal Flotation Devices - AS4758. Wearing a life-jacket while out on the water with us is mandatory.
